Frequently asked questions

Contact us
Is Grainify gluten-free?
Yes. Every Grainify product is naturally gluten-free because it's rice- or starch-based, never made with wheat, so nothing was reformulated out. It's third-party lab-tested to under 20 ppm of gluten, the FDA's gluten-free threshold.
Is glutinous rice (sticky rice, sweet rice flour, mochiko) gluten-free?
Yes. Despite the name, glutinous means sticky and refers to the texture, not the wheat protein gluten. Sweet rice flour (mochiko) contains no gluten and is safe for people with celiac disease. Grainify's mochi and rice-flour mixes are built on exactly this ingredient.
Isn't tempura made with wheat? How can it be gluten-free?
Traditional tempura batter is wheat flour, which is why most tempura isn't celiac-safe. Grainify's Tempura Batter Mix replaces wheat with a rice-flour blend that fries up shatter-crisp, with zero gluten. Just add ice-cold water.
Is Grainify safe for people with celiac disease?
Yes. Beyond being naturally wheat-free, it's third-party lab-tested to under 20 ppm, and it's produced in a segregated area with no wheat present, so there's no cross-contact.
Is Grainify certified gluten-free, or just lab-tested?
It's third-party lab-tested to under 20 ppm, the FDA gluten-free standard. It isn't GFCO-certified yet, but because the recipes never contained wheat and production is segregated from wheat, the risk is inherently low.
Is Grainify made in a facility separate from wheat?
Yes. Production takes place in an FSSC 22000-certified facility in a strictly segregated area with no wheat present where the food is made, for zero cross-contact.
What is kuzukiri, and how do I cook it?
Kuzukiri are silky, translucent Japanese glass noodles made from kudzu and potato starch, naturally gluten-free. Boil 2 to 3 minutes until clear, then chill in ice water. Serve chilled with kuromitsu syrup, or in hot broth and cold sesame bowls.
Why is there a Proposition 65 warning on the kuzukiri?
California's Prop 65 requires a warning for trace levels of naturally occurring elements found in many plant-based starches and root vegetables. It's a labeling requirement, not a sign the product is unsafe. Kuzukiri is a traditional Japanese food.
What's in the Mochi Pancake & Waffle Mix, and is it really gluten-free?
It's a sweet-rice-flour (mochiko) based mix for chewy, fluffy mochi pancakes, waffles, and Japanese souffle pancakes. Sweet rice flour is gluten-free despite the glutinous name, and it's third-party lab-tested to under 20 ppm.
Are Grainify products vegan, dairy-free, and egg-free?
The dry mixes are dairy-free and egg-free with no preservatives or animal products. Some package recipes suggest milk or eggs for the finished dish; swap in plant milk and an egg replacer to keep it fully vegan.
Do I need gluten-free soy sauce with Grainify?
For dipping or seasoning, yes, because most soy sauce is brewed with wheat. Use a gluten-free tamari or certified GF soy sauce so the whole dish stays celiac-safe. The Grainify mixes themselves are already gluten-free.
Where is Grainify made and where do the ingredients come from?
Grainify is produced in an FSSC 22000-certified family facility in Thailand, milling premium Thai rice into Japanese-style pantry mixes. The family has milled rice since 1987.
Is Grainify authentic Japanese food?
Grainify makes Japanese-style pantry staples, tempura, mochi pancakes, and kuzukiri, crafted gluten-free by a family rice mill. The dishes and techniques are authentically Japanese; the craft and rice come from our Thai family mill.
